Skiing in Austria
Austria is the second most popular country in Europe for British skiers after France. Austria ski resorts with their stunning Alpine scenery and traditional charm is renowned for its outstanding levels of service and quality. The most well known ski area in Austria is the Arlberg Ski Circus which incorporates St. Anton, St. Christoph, Lech and Zurs.
Skiiing in Czech Republic
Although it is not considered a mainstream country fro ski holidays, the Czech Republic has a surprisingly large number of ski areas with more than 100 to choose from. The skiing is generally located at relatively low altitudes most resorts have a good snow record with the support of increasingly sophisticated snow making networks.
Skiing in France
France is the most popular ski holiday destination for UK skiers, snowboarders and winter sports lovers. Most ski resorts are easily accessible and facilities are generally very good. The skiing in France is some of the best in the world and France boats some of the largest ski areas such as Les Trois Vallées (the Three Valleys) which comprises the resorts of Courchevel, Méribel, Val Thorens and Les Ménuires.
Skiiing in Germany
In comparison to France, Austria and Switzerland, Germany is often overlooked for skiing holidays. Whilst it may not offer the huge peaks and ski runs as its neighbouring countries it still has some great skiing. Germany's most famous ski area is Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where the 1936 winter Olympics was held. Other popular ski resorts in Germany include Oberstdorf, Oberammergau, and Berchtesgadener Land.
Skiing in Italy
From the Alps and Dolomites of northern Italy to Mt. Etna on Sicily Italy offers skiing and winter sports vacations. Whilst Italian ski resorts are not as famous as those in France and Austria, Italy offers a diverse array of skiing options.
Skiiing in Switzerland
Switzerland and the Swiss Alps are still amongst the most popular ski holiday destinations in Europe. Huge mountains give Switzerland some of the most spectacular scenery and skiing territory in the world. Switzerland's skiing is concentrated in several distinct regions. Easiest to reach are the Vaud and Valais resorts in the south-west - the Portes du Soleil, Villars, Verbier, Zermatt and Saas-Fee - that line the long Rhone valley from Lake Geneva towards central Switzerland.
